We were more than stunned to realize that six of our 2017 Illustration Academy instructors were nominated for awards. Five of these outstanding artists received Silver and Gold medals. Not to mention, the title of Spectrum's Grandmaster was awarded to comic book legend, Bill Sienkiewicz.
The Illustration Academy will be attending and presenting at the 2017 Spectrum Fantastic Art Live show in Kansas City, MO. This years event has a stellar lineup of attending artists. We are proud to call a number of the attending artists our instructors. This year, the following 2017 Illustration Academy instructors will be in attendance: Edward Kinsella, Jeffrey Alan Love, George Pratt, Bill Sienkiewicz, Bill Carman, and Jon Foster.
This summer, The Illustration Academy has welcomed Sterling to return as a visiting artist and mentor for students attending The Academy's summer workshop. Instructing during the third week of the workshop (June 25 - July 2), Sterling will be teaching alongside comic book and graphic novel artist, George Pratt, painter and illustrator, John English, Digital artist, Wesley Burt, and comic book artist, Vanesa Del Rey.
Google recently unveiled their latest project, Data Center Murals, which featured a monotype by famed artist and 2017 Illustration Academy instructor, Gary Kelly. Displayed on the side of a Google data center, located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Gary Kelley's mural is one of the largest reproductions of a monotype print ever.
Iconic painter, illustrator and storyteller, Sterling Hundley, is instructing a live and online workshop with The Illustration Academy this December. Inspired by the academic approach of The Illustration Academy's on-ground bootcamp, the online workshop will be a fully immersive experience for attending student artists.
The Illustration Academy is proud to announce that acclaimed illustrator, George Cwirko-Godycki, will be instructing an immersive Portfolio Development Workshop. With the assistance of Illustration Academy founder, John English, George will guide artists in the creation of an attention grabbing, professional portfolio. This series of online classes will be fully immersive, interactive and will take place Saturday, Nov. 5, 12, & 19 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm CST.
This September, the Illustration Academy will be hosting their first live, online, and interactive workshop. The immersive illustration workshop will be led by Eisner Award-winning and Emmy nominated artist, Bill Sienkiewicz. In collaboration with Mr. Sienkiewicz, The Academy plans to extend their education platform in a manner that is flexible and accessible to artists around the world. This will be the first of an ongoing series of workshops.
The next Illustration Academy Life Drawing Session is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 6:00-9:00pm. The session is open to the public. It will be hosted at an artist studio in the West Bottoms (1212 W. 8th street, Kansas City, MO 64101). This will be the last figure drawing session that is open to the public before The Illustration Academy 2016 Summer Workshop. The 2016 Summer Workshop figure drawing sessions are hosted three days a week on the Rockhurst University campus. Only students attending single weeks or the full 5-week program of The Illustration Academy are permitted to attend. There is still time to enroll, so sign up before it's too late.
In collaboration with BC Applied Arts, The Illustration Academy is attending Planet Comicon the weekend of May 20-22. In addition to hosting guests such as Stan Lee and film director Kevin Smith, Planet Comicon has invited two Illustration Academy instructors as their honorable guests.
