Workshop 1 (May 27 - June 3)

Mentors: Mark English · John English · George Pratt · Gary Kelley · Brad Holland

The first week of the academy includes hands on experience under the guidance of an iconic illustrator and painter, an Eisner Award-winning comic book artist, the most awarded artist by the Society of Illustrators, and a world renowned commercial and editorial artist.

ATTENDING ARTISTS

The first in-person summer workshop will be led by John English, Mark English, George Pratt, John Mueller, Brad Holland, and Gary Kelley. Packed full of iconic talent, this week of hands-on experience revolves around the specialties, skills, and careers of these five artists.

THE ASSIGNMENT

On Monday, students are given an assignment by the visiting instructors. The assignment is reviewed and critiqued one-on-one with the  instructors throughout the week. On Friday, the visiting instructors lead a constructive group critique of each student's finished piece.  

THE DAY-TO DAY

When students aren't attending a lecture, demo, or critiques, they will be hard at work completing their assignment. Figure drawing is hosted three nights a week, maximizing the student's exposure to drawing and creative development.

 

 

Workshop 2 (June 3 - June 10)

The second in-person summer workshop includes hands on experience under the guidance of a digital artist leading the fantasy art industry, an Eisner Award-winning comic book artist, an iconic painter, and a renowned commercial and editorial artists.

The second week in-person summer workshop will be led by Jon Foster, George Pratt, John English, Francis Vallejo, Jeffrey Alan Love, and John Mueller. This hands-on workshop revolves around the specialties, skills, and accomplished careers of these four artists.

An all-star week featuring two of today's most acclaimed illustrators in the world of comics. In addition, one of the most hired and sought after concept artist in the entertainment industry joins the roster. This workshop will begin with an industry-driven assignment and you will receive feedback from the most seasoned pros in the industry.

The third week in-person summer workshop will be led by Wesley Burt, C. F. Payne, George Pratt, Bill Sienkiewicz, and John English. This hands-on workshop revolves around the specialties, skills, and accomplished careers of these four artists.

John English · George Pratt · Edward Kinsella · Sterling Hundley

Edward Kinsella and Sterling Hundley, both former Illustration Academy students have gone on to establish groundbreaking careers in the illustration industry. During Workshop 4, you will learn how they both launched their careers, the techniques, tools, and paths they followed to get to where they are today. You will then apply this knowledge to your personal goals and artwork.

The fourth in-person summer workshop features guest artist mentors George Pratt, John English, Edward Kinsella, and Sterling Hundley. This career-oriented and network-focused workshop revolves around the specialties, skills, and accomplished careers of these three artists.

Workshop 5 (June 24 - July 1)

Vanesa Del Rey · Natalie Hall · John English · Mark English

Vanesa Del Rey is simply taking the comic world by storm. She is setting the standard for a new generation of visual storytellers. Natalie Hall also joins the team. Natalie's work was most recently featured in the Academy Award-winning film, The Shape of Water. In addition, internationally acclaimed legend in the illustration and painting world, Mark English joins as a speaker. John English will direct the program.

The fifth in-person summer workshop features guest artist mentors, Edward Kinsella, Vanesa Del Rey, and John English This career-oriented and network-focused workshop revolves around the specialties, skills, and accomplished careers of these five world renowned artists.
